South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families hosting statewide men's health teleconference tonight

The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, in partnership with it network of fatherhood organizations, is hosting a statewide teleconference for all fathers, partners and stakeholders this evening (Dec. 7) from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. HealthWise – Maintaining Men’s Health During Covid Times will be hosted by Nurse Practitioner Dawn Pender, facilitated by Program Manager Marc Himes and feature a panel of three health and wellness experts.

This virtual session will focus on maintaining physical and emotional well-being during these challenging times. The health experts will discuss strategies for maintaining optimal health for men and their families. Each guest will provide insight and practical strategies on exercise, nutrition, stress relief and disease prevention.

Meet the Experts

Ian Beck, owner of B3 Strength & Performance is a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach. He is widely known for his ability to take a serious situation and infuse it with laughter. Although he believes laughter cures nearly every problem, nothing has a greater impact on society than paying it forward through education. Ian is a former early childhood educator and holds an MA in Educational Leadership. Ian developed an ability to break down complex ideas into bite-size chunks of understandable information and has turned his passion of owning a gym into a classroom experience for each member.

Dr. Damon Daniels MD, MPH is family physician who practices in Northeast Columbia. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA and did his residency in family medicine at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. He served as a professor at the USC Department of Family and Preventive Medicine for five years before starting his own practice, Wellspring Family Medicine, a primary care practice with an emphasis on the healthcare needs of families. The mission of the practice is to provide the highest quality healthcare in a compassionate manner with an emphasis on the whole person. This practice is based on offering improved access to patient-centered care with an emphasis on assisting patients in managing their chronic illnesses (diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease).

Taurus D. Sanders is a Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC Supervisor Candidate, and a Certified Addictions Counselor who has experience working in inpatient and outpatient settings with mental health and addiction issues. Prior to counseling, Taurus began his career in law enforcement as a police officer for over 14 years. The training and experience responding to crisis and traumatic situations has afforded Taurus the ability to understand and respond effectively. He focuses on helping individuals live up to their full purpose and potential.
