South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families fatherhood program receives grant to create a space for fathers and their children

The Midlands Fatherhood Coalition, which is a program of the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, received a grant for $40,000 from the HDR Foundation to create a "dad's den" at its location in Sumter, South Carolina. The den will be a space for dads to gather for father-child activities, meetings, educational training, and to have access to the internet and laptops for homework help and job applications.

The Midlands Fatherhood Coalition and the center's other fatherhood programs across South Carolina work to create stronger, more successful families by helping fathers build the skills they need to be responsible and engaged. The coalition was one of only 11 organizations across the country to receive a grant from HDR's large grant cycle. The HDR Foundation provides grants to qualified organizations that align with HDR’s areas of expertise: education, healthy communities and environmental stewardship.

About the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families
The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System. Its mission is based on the conviction that children thrive when an engaged, responsible father is active in their lives. In South Carolina, many children live in a father-absent home, and the consequences are dire. To address this problem, the center supports six fatherhood programs across the state while promoting father-friendly policies and practices and helping to erase society’s negative stereotypes of unwed, low-income dads.
