Sisters of Charity Health System mourns passing of former OHA President and CEO Jim Castle

The Sisters of Charity Health system extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jim Castle, who passed away January 7. Jim was the president and CEO of the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA) for 23 years before he retired in 2011.

“Having led the OHA for more than two decades, Jim made a lasting impact on health care in Northeast Ohio and across Ohio. He was a visionary leader and a wonderful partner to the Sisters of Charity Health System as he was always extremely supportive of our health system and our hospitals. I offer my thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and the many colleagues he worked with over the years,” said Janice G. Murphy, president and CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System.

During his tenure, Jim was known for leading patient safety and quality improvement efforts, as well as helping to establish hospital emergency preparedness programs, among many other accomplishments. OHA bestows an annual award named after him, which honors an individual whose professional attainments embody qualities of an outstanding leader or mentor for service to the community, or other special achievement.
