Established in 1996, the foundation is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System committed to addressing the needs of the poor and underserved by “understanding the root causes of poverty, nurturing the growth of healthy communities, emphasizing youth and family, and measuring the outcomes of these efforts.”
Grant recipients and their awards are:
Access Health Stark County - $2,000 to support an informational campaign to help low-income families learn about, shop for, and enroll in affordable health care options through the federal marketplace and expanded Medicaid.
Agape Ministries - $5,000 to support the Men of Tomorrow intensive mentoring program.
Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank - $35,000 to support the next phase of Stark County food hub development.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Summit, Medina and Stark Counties - $20,000 to support youth mentoring programs in Stark County.
Canton Calvary Mission - $15,000 to support an after-school program.
College Club of Canton - $500 to support a board development workshop.
Domestic Violence Project - $105,000 over two years to support the legal advocacy and renew counseling programs.
Early Childhood Education Alliance - $100,000 over three years to support SPARK programming in Alliance.
Early Childhood Resource Center - $270,237 to support SPARK programming in Canton and Minerva and for general operating support.
Early Childhood Resource Center - $2,500 to support incentives for five SPARK focus groups.
Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio - $180,378 over two years to support the parenting skills training program.
Hammer and Nails - $50,000 to support the purchase and renovation of a new building.
Mercy Medical Center - $4,200 for sponsorship support for the annual Harvest Ball.
Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association - $100,000 to support a pilot mentoring program for child care centers seeking to enter the state’s Step Up To Quality child care rating and improvement system.
People’s Baptist Church - $5,000 to support a neighborhood playground.
Pegasus Farm - $150,000 over two years to support the Military Family Center.
Refuge of Hope - $200,000 to support construction of a new facility.
Salvation Army of Massillon - $10,000 to support the Pathway of Hope program.
Stark County District Library - $800 to support the annual family book celebration.
Stark Education Partnership - $90,000 over three years for operating support.
Stark Housing Network - $150,000 over five years for operating support.
Thanksgiving Baskets Downtown - $1,000 for program support.
Warren Township Community Center - $8,532 to support the Monday lunch program.
