Healthy Learners releases 2020 annual report; highlights bright spots during a difficult year

Healthy Learners has released its 2020 annual report, which acknowledges the challenges of 2020 while focusing on the bright spots. In a time when so many were without food, medicine, baby supplies and other essentials, Healthy Learners joined in to serve - including distributing more than 91,000 meals - while still working to identify and get children the health care they so desperately needed, regardless of where they were learning.

Healthy Learners strengthened its organizational foundation by focusing on new best practice strategies for marketing, evaluation and fund development all to improve its capacity to serve more children in more communities in 2021.

Below is the text of a letter in the report from Executive Director Amy Splittgerber.

2020 Was a Year to Remember

As we look back on 2020, it is easy to focus on all that was negative. Yet through the challenges there were definitely bright spots. For Healthy Learners these bright spots were plentiful! We saw communities coming together to care for each other. In a time when so many were without food, medicine, baby supplies and other essentials, we joined in to serve. We saw school districts and teachers working so hard to figure out the best way to safely educate their children. During a time where there was a constantly changing environment, our staff was nimble and patient to identify and get the children the healthcare they so desperately needed, regardless of where they were learning.

We strengthened our organizational foundation by focusing on new best practice strategies for marketing, evaluation and fund development all to improve our capacity to serve more children in more communities in 2021.

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it has reminded us of what is at the core of our mission – LOVE. It has reminded me personally that all people should have an equal opportunity to grow and learn and thrive. We have a lot of work to do, yet when you ground the work in loving service, anything is possible. At Healthy Learners we are hitting the ground running in 2021!

Healthy Learners is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
