Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina Awards $79,500 in Grants

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded 31 Caritas grants, totaling $64,500, and three other grants, totaling $15,000, to nonprofit and faith-based organizations across South Carolina. Second Training in Series for Continuum of Care Funded Agencies is May 23

In an effort to build the capacity of the homeless services provider community, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland is partnering with the Saint Luke's Foundation, the Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Office of Homeless Services and Mental Health Services, Inc. to offer a year-long training series called Housing Cuyahoga County: A Training Series for Continuum of Care Funded Agencies. The nine-part series will run through October of 2011 and will offer homeless service providers the opportunity to learn about national and local best practice models to effectively prevent and end homelessness. Foundation accepting applications for leadership training programs

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina is accepting applications until June 30, 2011, for two leadership programs geared towards leaders in the nonprofit sector. Both programs, which aim to help nonprofit leaders in South Carolina take their skills to the next level, are part of the foundation’s Carolina Academy for Nonprofits, which offers workshops to nonprofit organizations. St. Vincent Charity Medical Center's health literacy work, supported by Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, highlighted in Catholic Health World

"Admitting" will make way for "Patient Check-In." Instead of "Protective Services," visitors will see "Security" on the directional placards. "Radiology" will be called "X-Ray."  It's all part of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center's ongoing effort to improve the way it communicates with patients. Since 2007, the hospital has sought to make health information easier to understand, which includes making the hospital hallways easier to navigate.   More...

Joseph’s Home residents give back to community

In late 2010, Joseph’s Home residents, staff and alums visited the Cuyahoga Community College Culinary Arts Program’s state-of-the-art kitchens to bake cookies for an activity called “Homeless Give Back.” The baked goods were donated to children attending the Catholic Charities Community Service Early Learning Center and the Early Childhood Center of Arbor Park. Cookies were also sold at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, with proceeds benefitting Joseph’s Home. More...
