Fatherhood program helping father of two young daughters overcome barriers to being a better dad

A father of two young daughters, Thomas Mayfield had a laundry list of barriers when the Georgetown County Dept of Social Services (DSS) recommended that Thomas enroll at A Father’s Place (AFP), a program of the the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families. Finding the resources at AFP has helped him gain temporary custody of his children and given Mayfield a new road map to follow. [More]

Healthy Learners releases new video that highlights its mission of removing children's health barriers to learning

Healthy Learners is devoted to removing children's health barriers to learning with love and compassion, which is highlighted in a newly released video. The video features students, health care providers and more who help tell the story of Healthy Learners. In 2019, Healthy Learners serviced 1,910 students across South Carolina and facilitated more than 5,699 services statewide through five programs serving 150 schools. [More]

South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families stays connected to the fathers it serves

Being a parent isn’t easy. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, for many parents – and that includes fathers - this job has gotten harder. Fathers are faced, once again, with higher threats of unemployment and the frustration of not being able to provide for their families. Despite these trying times, the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families and its six fatherhood organizations across the state haven’t stopped programs and services. The center is using technology, creative solutions and old-fashion one-on-one outreach to keep fathers connected to their families, the support and guidance of staff and to other fathers in the center's programs. Joseph’s Home has named Beth Graham as executive director to guide the facility’s medical respite care for Cleveland’s homeless men and to strengthen programs to help residents on a path toward stable housing and self-sufficiency. Graham has dedicated her career to creating quality, affordable housing and support services, most recently as senior underwriter at Enterprise Community Partners, where she helped direct more than $160 million in Northeast Ohio to address housing insecurity, homelessness and to help create healthy communities. Fatherhood program helps father recover from life-changing injury, avoid jail time and get on track to earn GED

The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families supports six fatherhood programs in 12 communities across the state to strengthen families through fatherhood engagement. Its mission continues to change lives for fathers and families, which is evident in the help one father has received from the Midlands Fatherhood Coalition to recover from a life-changing injury, focus on earning his GED and building a better relationship with his children.
