WACH-FOX57 profiles Healthy Learners ahead of Midlands Gives online giving event May 3

The Central Carolina Community Foundation is presenting its ninth annual regional day of giving in the Midlands of South Carolina May 3 with an 18-hour online giving challenge known as Midlands Gives. Two ministries of the Sisters of Charity Health System are participating: Healthy Learners and the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families. Since its inception in 2014, the event has raised $15.9 million for local nonprofits.

WACH-FOX57 recently profiled Healthy Learners and how a gift to the ministry can change the lives of children to help promote the online giving event.

For those of you looking forward to donating at the annual event, Midlands Gives, the time has almost come.

Healthy Learners is one of the hundreds of non-profits you can donate to on May 3.

This group ensures that students with no health insurance stay healthy and get the proper medical care they need, even if that means paying all of their expenses.

“I receive invoices every day for students that have gone to see providers and those invoices can be kind of steep when you look at the funding,” said Kim House with Healthy Learners. “But we’re committed to ensuring our children stay in school.”

House says their goal is to raise $15,000 this year at Midlands Gives.

Healthy Learners and the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families are ministries of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
