Healthy Business Council of Ohio recognizes Mercy Medical Center for healthy worksite practices

The Healthy Business Council of Ohio (HBCO) recognized Mercy Medical Center with the 2019 Healthy Worksite GOLD Level Award during the 16th annual Healthy Worksite awards presentation on January 23 at the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center in Columbus, Ohio. Mercy was among 34 Ohio large employers (1,001 or more employees) recognized with the GOLD Level Award for demonstrating a commitment to employee wellness through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs. Applicants are scored on the extent their wellness programs facilitate and encourage employee health, enhance productivity and ensure a healthy work environment.

“This year’s application was more comprehensive than past years as we worked to better align our assessment with the CDC Worksite Health Scorecard so worksites could more effectively become competitive with national trends in workplace wellbeing programming,” explained the Healthy Worksite Award Co-Chair Annie Laurie Cadmus. “Worksites who are recognized this year should be especially proud of their accomplishments knowing they have provided their employees with nationally competitive and well-rounded programming that supports healthy lifestyles.”

Mercy Medical Center Interim CEO Tom Strauss says the hospital’s wellness program focuses not only on physical health, but also mental, emotional and spiritual health. “Our wellness program does a wonderful job of fostering a culture of healthy living by offering a variety of creative programs to educate and support our employees to make healthy lifestyle choices.”

Programs offered include hospital-wide wellness challenges, an employee fitness center, fitness classes, regular health screenings, tobacco cessation, diabetes management, weight management programs, lunchtime health talks, nutritious cafeteria options, counseling services, Mercy Pastoral Care, and more.

Stephanie Wheeler, MS, CES, director of employee health and wellness at Mercy Medical Center, accepted the award on behalf of Mercy Medical Center.

Mercy Medical Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
