Foundations host 14th annual women religious conference

The Sisters of Charity Foundations of South Carolina and Cleveland recently hosted more than 80 participants, including 60 women religious from seven states, at the 14th annual Collaboration for Ministry Initiative (CMI) Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Five sisters from the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine (CSA) Sisters attended the conference, including Sister Judith Ann Karam, Sister Cheryl Keehner, Sister Nancy Hendershot, Sister Allen Kenzig and Sister Miriam Erb.

The theme for this year’s conference was “A Pilgrimage to Happiness: Discipleship along a Moonlit Path” and Sister Clare D’Auria, OSF of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia was the featured speaker. Bishop Robert Guglielimone spoke to the conference attendees on Saturday and also conducted Mass the same day.

“This conference is a highlight for all of us each year,” said Tom Keith, Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina president. “It has become a family reunion and a homecoming all wrapped up in one event.”

Activities at the conference included good news sharing, game night, a session on happiness, prayer time, movie night, water aerobics and an ice cream social. Long-time consultants for CMI, Kathy Csank of and Dr. Mark Small, spoke during the weekend on subjects of happiness and gratitude. Donna Waites, senior program director for the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, presented information on foundation Grant possibilities and grant deadlines.

The two foundations have hosted a fall conference for women religious since 2005. The initiative has invested more than $2 million in grants and programs to support women religious in South Carolina. Similar dollars have been invested by the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland to support Women Religious in the Cleveland area.
