The Sisters of Charity Health System stands with the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio (COHHIO) and multiple other organizations in Ohio in opposition to the Ohio Senate removing several positive housing proposals in the state budget from Gov. DeWine and the Ohio House, and adding other provisions that will stifle development of affordable housing. After more than a decade of efforts to sell and redevelop the former Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Court Building & Detention Center overlooking the Innerbelt freeway trench at East 22nd Street, the county has agreed to demolish the long-vacant building. The demolition will enable construction of a wide surface-level “cap’' over the highway trench with ample spaces for pedestrians, bicyclists and transit, helping reconnect Cleveland’s Central communities with the city’s central business district.…

An activity as seemingly simple as creating something from nothing using yarn and a hooked needle can offer many benefits. That something simple is crochet, which has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, relax the mind, relieve depression, offer a sense of community when done in a group and even build a business. For several years, Building Healthy Communities has offered crochet classes at locations around Cleveland’s Central neighborhood. The crochet classes have taught dozens of residents how to crochet, with some even going on to earn an income from their work or crocheted works used as donations to the community.…

The city of Cleveland has been selected as one of 13 communities across the United States to receive awards from The BUILD Health Challenge for its 2023-2026 term. An innovative funding collaborative and award program, BUILD puts multi-sector, community-driven partnerships at the center of health to reduce health disparities caused by system-based or social inequity.
