St. Vincent Charity Medical Center receives 2018 Women’s Choice Award® as one of America’s best hospitals for orthopedics

The Women’s Choice Award® has named St. Vincent Charity Medical Center one of the top 22 hospitals in the country for orthopedics. The Women’s Choice Award recently published its full list of 357 of America’s best hospitals for orthopedics. Becker’s Spine Review drilled down into the list to identify the top 22 hospitals on the full list, which includes the top 11 percent of 3,230 U.S. hospitals offering orthopedics services.

“St. Vincent Charity not only received this prestigious award, we had the additional honor of being one of only 22 hospitals to be at the top of this list of America’s best hospitals for orthopedics,” said David Perse, M.D., St. Vincent Charity Medical Center president and CEO. “This award really means a lot because in addition to meeting the strictest level of health care criteria, we had to earn it from our community. In fact, only the hospitals that achieve a high level of patient satisfaction criteria from their patients are eligible to earn the award.”

In a national survey conducted by the Women’s Choice Award, female orthopedic patients identified the following key priorities when choosing a hospital for orthopedics:

  • Single source for orthopedic services
  • Solid patient safety record
  • High recommendation ratings

“Women have different orthopedics needs, particularly as they grow older and become more at risk for osteoporosis and fractures,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. “They also have different health care preferences, which we use to evaluate the recipients of America’s best hospitals for orthopedics. We are the only award that recognizes a hospital’s ability to meet women’s distinctive needs.”

The methodology used to select St. Vincent Charity Medical Center as one of America’s best hospitals for orthopedics is unique in that it evaluates Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary research about women’s health care preferences.  Award recipients are also measured on their incidence of surgical complications and infections.

A hospital must have arthroscopy, joint replacement and spine surgery orthopedic services available to patients, onsite physical therapy, and an MRI in order to qualify for the award. It is the only award recognizing excellence in orthopedics based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.
