Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina selects Benedict College junior for its 2018-19 President’s Fellow

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina recently announced the selection for its 2018-19 President’s Fellow—Shawn Brown, a rising junior at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Brown was chosen from a pool of outstanding student leaders that went through the interview process.

“We are very impressed with Shawn’s credentials and also his engaging personality,” said Tom Keith, Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina president. “Shawn’s selection is an important one as he represents both Benedict College and the Sisters of Charity Foundation as a leader throughout the entire school year,” said Keith.

Created in 2015, the President’s Fellow Program gives African-American males studying at Benedict College the chance to use real-life experience gained through the fellowship to enhance their college career and their future professional opportunities. Fellows selected from the Historically Black College (HBC) are exposed to all aspects of philanthropy through the foundation’s grantmaking processes, financial management, community building, public policy and issue-driven initiatives.

Brown, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, is a junior majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing. He currently maintains a 3.23 GPA and is expected to graduate in May 2020. He is actively involved on campus serving as Mr. Junior 2018-19, a student ambassador, the drummer for the gospel choir and is a member of the Collegiate 100 Leadership Organization on campus.

Brown’s future plan is to graduate from Benedict College with a bachelor’s degree in business marketing. He said he strives to be a role model for others that want to pursue their dreams of higher education.
