Mercy Medical Center receives 2014 Healthy Worksite Silver Award from Ohio Department of Health

The Ohio Department of Health’s Healthy Ohio Business Council recently awarded Mercy Medical Center a 2014 Silver Healthy Ohio – Health Worksite Award In recognition of the hospital’s commitment to employee health through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs. Mercy has received the award six times at either a bronze or silver level.

Kathy Wise, Mercy’s director of health and wellness, said it’s the hospital’s responsibility to demonstrate leadership in the area of employee health. “As a major provider of health care services for Stark and surrounding counties, we must set an example for the community, as well as show genuine concern for the well-being of all who work here,” she said. “This award acknowledges Mercy’s long-term and ongoing efforts to facilitate and encourage employee health, enhance productivity and ensure a healthy work environment for all employees.”

Mercy’s employee-health model incorporates social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, occupational, intellectual and physical wellness. Initiatives include:

  • Diabetes self-management education program, which includes an opportunity to receive free diabetic supplies
  • On-site tobacco cessation program, weight management, fitness center, fitness classes and monthly blood-pressure screenings
  • A cafeteria with a wide range of healthy options with nutrition labeling and the frequent addition of new items
