Mercy Medical Center program provides moms with gifts, childcare education

Since 2001, Mercy Medical Center and Mercy Mission Outreach have been hosting the Mercy Baby Showers program to teach pregnant women in Canton, Ohio, about good baby care. Mercy Baby Showers happen twice a year at the Skyline Terrace housing complex in the southeast of Canton and Mercy at St. Paul Square in the northeast of Canton.

Ten to 15 expecting or new mothers typically participate in the program once a week for three weeks. The free program includes education about newborn care from pediatricians, dietitians and other health care professionals from Mercy Medical Center and other community organizations who talk about baby health and safety, infant nutrition, safe sleeping, breastfeeding and more.

Upon program completion, the women receive a car seat, educational materials, safety items, baby food and more.

“It’s a privilege to help young moms in the Canton community discover healthy ways to nurture and care for their children,” said Sister Carolyn Capuano, HM, vice president of mission and ministry services at Mercy Medical Center.

Mercy Medical Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
