Charity golf tournament raises $9,000 for Healthy Learners

Healthy Learners was the recipient of funds from the “Tee Off for TW” golf tournament held in April at Caledonia Golf Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. More than 120 people were there to honor the memory of Todd Welden with a day of golf, food and live music.

Welden was the head golf professional/director of golf at Caledonia from August 1993 until his death in October 2013. Caledonia owners and staff, along with Welden's family, wanted to host a one-time event to honor him and to provide a venue for friends and family to remember him.

Although he never had children of his own, Welden enjoyed their laughter and playfulness. Because of this love, tournament organizes choose Healthy Learners of Georgetown County as the beneficiary of the $9,000 raised in memory of Welden.

Healthy Learners is a faith-based nonprofit that connects children to care so that poor health is not an obstacle to doing well in school. Since opening in 2009, Healthy Learners Georgetown has helped 940 children receive 4,725 medical services and traveled more than 100,000 miles transporting children to appointments.

Healthy Learners representatives Rebecca Lammonds, Georgetown coordinator; Lawly Ford, fund development coordinator; and Laura Tucker, Georgetown County School District's lead nurse; along with some Healthy Learners students, enjoyed the day as well. The students helped kick off the event and then worked alongside Welden’s family during the tournament.

Healthy Learners is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
