Providence Hospitals opens general surgery practice in downtown Columbia

Providence Hospitals has opened a new general surgery practice, Providence Surgical Associates, on its campus near downtown Columbia, South Carolina. The partners in the new practice are Roland R. Craft, M.D., FACS, and Chad A. Rubin, M.D., FACS.

“A general surgery practice with talent like Dr. Craft and Dr. Rubin so close to the hospital surgical suites is a win for patients and referring physicians. We are confident that the practice will be a great resource due to the surgeons’ wealth of experience and leadership on both a national and local level,” said Ken Beasley, associate vice president of Ambulatory Physician Services for Providence Physicians, the practice arm of Providence Hospitals.

Dr. Craft, a Columbia native, completed his internship and residency at the University of South Carolina’s Department of Surgery. Prior to joining Providence full time, he was a member of the surgical team at Surgical Associates of South Carolina, Palmetto Health Physician Practices.

Dr. Rubin received his degree in microbiology from Southern Illinois University and his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He has served as vice chief of surgery at Providence.

Providence Hospitals is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
