Sister of Charity Health System and MetroHealth remind Clevelanders about deadline for Health Insurance Marketplace

Today, volunteers from the Sister of Charity Health System visited lunch-time crowds at the historic Westside Market in Cleveland, Ohio, to help make sure people know about affordable health coverage through the  Health Insurance Marketplace.

The outreach effort was a last-minute push to raise awareness about the March 31 open enrollment deadline for coverage starting in 2014 through the Health Insurance Marketplace. At the Westside Market, the Sisters of Charity Health System volunteers were joined by friends from the MetroHealth System in handing out free bottles of water wrapped with information driving people to (See a gallery of photos from the event here.)

The federal Health Insurance Marketplace helps people who need health coverage find it. Through the Marketplace, people can compare health insurance options based on price, benefits, quality and more. Potential enrollees can learn more and apply for coverage in one of three ways: online at, over the phone (800-318-2596) or with in-person assistance ( Northeast Ohioans can also receive local help by calling 2-1-1.

To date, more than 5 million people have enrolled in private plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace. However, awareness events like today’s are important efforts. After the March 31 deadline, open enrollment doesn’t start up again until November for coverage starting in 2015.

A vocal advocate for increased health access, the Sisters of Charity Health System and its ministries have presented numerous opportunities and resources to increase awareness of and participation in the Health Insurance Marketplace since it opened last October.

The Sisters of Charity Health System firmly believe that families and communities are stronger when everyone has access to quality, affordable health care.
