Providence Hospitals names Michael French interim CEO

As reported in the Columbia Regional Business ReportThe State and ColaDailyProvidence Hospitals has named Michael French interim CEO. 

French has most recently served as president and CEO of Michael French & Associates, a health care interim management and consulting firm based in Roswell, Georgia; interim CEO of Universal Hospitals Group, an 11-hospital system based in Istanbul, Turkey; and managing director of Huron Consulting Group, a global management consulting company offering services in the health care, education, law and finance industries. His previous experience includes executive leadership roles at hospitals and management consultant firms across the nation. French’s first day in the interim leadership role at Providence was February 17. He succeeds George Zara, who announced his retirement as president and CEO of Providence Hospitals last month.

“I am pleased to join the Providence leadership team and the thousands of talented employees and health care professionals of these two great hospitals,” said French. “Their clear commitment to providing the very best cardiac and orthopedic care in the state is energizing and inspiring.”

Throughout the past several years, Providence Hospitals has expanded services through developing strategic relationships with South Carolina Heart Center, which is a well-known leader across the state in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, and the Moore Center for Orthopedics, a practice known nationally for its pioneering advancements in orthopedic medical care. Providence also recently completed a $38 million renovation of Providence Hospital Northeast to create comprehensive orthopedic services at the facility. Additionally, throughout the past several years Providence has expanded Providence Physicians, also known as Augustine Health Group, with 10 new practices and five new doctors.
