Sisters of Charity Health System’s Orlando Alvarez presents at national medical symposium

On Wednesday, Orlando Alvarez, Jr., senior vice president, strategy and business development for the Sisters of Charity Health System, presented at the national MedAxiom Cardiovascular Service Symposium 2013 in Atlanta. Alvarez’s presentation, titled “Strategic Change Management,” highlighted best practices in responding to the tremendous change in the health care environment, and how hospitals are responding by driving constant change.

Alvarez described how effective management of change is difficult, especially in light of managing multiple and often competing initiatives ranging from the deployment of information technology, the development of service lines to the formation of Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) and/or bundled payments. He also shared an overview of a strategic management change approach to coordinate the multiple initiatives to optimize success, which he has developed.

Alvarez's presentation was featured in the June 12 issue of Cardiovascular Business in an article titled "Standardization, structure counter healthcare chaos." Read the full article here.
