Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton president appointed to Ohio Early Childhood Advisory Council and selected to participate in the Clinton Global Initiative on Early Childhood

Ohio Governor John Kasich has appointed Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton President Joni T. Close as the chairperson of the Early Childhood Advisory Council. Close was also selected to participate in the Clinton Global Initiative on Early Childhood. She was one of only 70 people nationwide chosen to participate in the initiative.

The Ohio Early Childhood Advisory Council merged an early childhood group assisting the Build Ohio board with the addition of some new members to meet the 2007 Head Start Act requirements. The 30-member council includes a diverse array of primarily private stakeholders from early childhood programs, schools, higher education, foundations, and other groups. Close’s term began March 22, 2013, and will continue at the pleasure of the governor.

In June, Close will participate in the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) America, an annual event focused on finding solutions that promote economic recovery in the United States. The event is hosted by President Bill Clinton. This working meeting will bring together leaders from the business, foundation, NGO, and government sectors to develop solutions that increase employment, advance access to education and skills development, strengthen energy security, and promote an environment for business growth and innovation. CGI America participants each contribute to a topic-specific working group at the meeting. Close is participating in the Early Childhood Education working group.

The group will convene multiple times over the two days and provide opportunities to share knowledge, build partnerships, and generate commitments around early childhood education.  This working group will continue promising conversations initiated at CGI America 2012 by bringing together a cross section of educators, business leaders, and advocates to identify actionable approaches that ultimately improve access to and increase the number of high quality learning opportunities for America's young children.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
