Office of Healthy Ohio honors Mercy Medical Center for healthy worksite practices

The Office of Healthy Ohio has recognized Mercy Medical Center, along with 32 other Ohio businesses, for healthy worksite practices.

Healthy Ohio Business Council Chair Cynthia Crosthwaite will present the seventh-annual Healthy Ohio-Healthy Worksite awards on Friday, February 11 at 12:15 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Dublin. The ceremony will be held during Health Action Council Ohio’s Columbus Kick Off conference that features national experts on health reform, health care systems and health benefits including Roger C. Merrill, M.D. of Perdue Farms Incorporated.

More than 80 companies, cities and townships applied for the 2010 awards, which recognize Ohio employers that demonstrate a commitment to employee health through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs.

“Workers spend a significant time at their jobs,” Crosthwaite said. “Healthy practices at work almost certainly will translate to healthy practices at home and a valuable reduction in health care costs. These Ohio employers are leading the way in providing exemplary workplace wellness programs for their employees.”

Mercy Medical Center, which is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, earned a bronze award in the large employer category (301 or more employees).

“We are thrilled to receive the Healthy Ohio-Healthy Worksite award as well as the American Heart Association Fit Friendly company Gold award for the third year in a row,” commented Kathy G. Wise, RD, LD, LWC, Director of Health & Wellness at Mercy Medical Center, “Mercy has demonstrated its commitment to wellness by developing a results-oriented wellness initiative with organizational strategies that will last over time.”

Wise added that Mercy is helping its employees lead healthier lives by creating a culture that supports wellness. Housed at the Ohio Department of Health, the Office of Healthy Ohio consists of three core areas: health promotion, disease prevention and health equity.
