A Hope and a Future: Fatherhood program of the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families featured in Columbia Metropolitan Magazine

Midlands Fatherhood Coalition, a program of the the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, is featured in this month’s edition of Columbia Metropolitan Magazine. The article, entitled “A Hope and a Future,” gives insight to the many layers of life that fatherhood programs can touch in helping dads, children, families and communities grow stronger. The article begins with the journey of Devin Bartos, a young father who managed to escape a destructive lifestyle and become the responsible, nurturing dad he had always want to be to his son. The feature also gives an overview of how the program works, especially in bettering outcomes for children. [More]

Opinion: A disastrous Census undercount looms. Act now to protect NE Ohio’s future.

Information being collected right now for the 2020 Census will shape how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds flow into communities for the next 10 years. Counting everyone in a community helps leaders effectively plan for the future and informs funding decisions for critical public services. 2020 Census response rates vary significantly throughout Northeast Ohio. In the city of Cleveland, not even half (47.9%) of households have been counted yet. A Sunday opinion piece on Cleveland.com urged everyone to respond to the census before the September 30 deadline. Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina president discusses the nonprofit reaction to COVID-19 and what recovery looks like on health care podcast

Sisters of Charity of South Carolina Foundation President Tom Keith recently spoke about how the organization is supporting nonprofits on the frontlines of the pandemic on Taking the Pulse - A Health Care Podcast. Keith and the hosts discussed how the nonprofit world has reacted to COVID-19 and what recovery looks like. Keith discussed how the pandemic has altered how the foundation assists communities, including the formation of new partnerships and quickly awarding nearly 30 grants to address COVID-19 related problems through an emergency COVID-19 fund. South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families to launch statewide "dad facts" campaign

The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families is launching a statewide campaign designed to put the facts about what happens to children, families and communities when dads are absent and when they are present and engaged. The campaign, which will visually present bold, graphic messaging such as “Absent Dad = Child Poverty” on billboards, in social media and targeted digital ads, will drive people to a campaign page on the Center’s website with detailed information and calls to action to advocate, donate and volunteer. South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families receives $1.3 million grant to serve young men

The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families has received a $1.3 million grant from the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Population Affairs to promote optimum health among males ages 13-19 years of age. The center is partnering with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) on the three-year project to target young males who reside in DJJ’s long term facilities, are transitioning to the community or are under DJJ community supervision. Take Action: Ask your senators to support Medicaid and Medicare AAP loan forgiveness in the next COVID package

The Senate is expected to take up a COVID-19 supplemental bill after returning from recess July 20, following passage last month in the House of the Heroes Act that we as a health system supported. In advance of action there, we stand with the Catholic Health Association of the United Sates (CHA) in urging everyone within the health system and our ministries to ask lawmakers to include several provisions in a final COVID-19 relief package that will provide essential resources for the Medicaid program and financial relief for providers with loans under the Medicare Accelerated and Advance Payment programs (AAP).
