Health system ministries in Stark County part of collaborative to help families at risk for infant mortality

Toward Health Resiliency for Infant Vitality & Equity (THRIVE) in Stark County, Ohio, works to determine the factors that lead to infant mortality in the Canton community and reduce the overall infant mortality rate as well as the disparity in birth outcomes relative to white and black infants. The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton is a funder of the program and the Early Childhood Resource Center is a community partner/referring agency for the program. Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland part of Sisters on the Frontlines collaborative that receives national recognition

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland is part of a collaborative working to share relief grants with Catholic sisters serving individuals and families affected by COVID-19. The Sisters on the Frontlines initiative led by FADICA, GHR Foundation and others, inspired a second pilot program in Northeast Ohio, with $1,000 grants for more than 60 sisters in congregations across the Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown areas. Global Sisters Report, an online publication of National Catholic Reporter, highlighted the initiative and featured foundation senior program officer Margaret Eigsti in a recent story. [More]

Opinion: A disastrous Census undercount looms. Act now to protect NE Ohio’s future.

Information being collected right now for the 2020 Census will shape how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds flow into communities for the next 10 years. Counting everyone in a community helps leaders effectively plan for the future and informs funding decisions for critical public services. 2020 Census response rates vary significantly throughout Northeast Ohio. Mercy Medical Center awarded more than $956,000 for COVID-19 response

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA) have awarded $956,059.90 to Mercy Medical Center for federal disaster aid to help respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mercy is expanding two operating rooms for negative pressure to prevent airborne spread of the disease and purchasing a COVID-19 Module for molecular testing capabilities to test for COVID in its lab, as well as purchasing a portable X-ray machine. St. Vincent Charity and University Hospitals to improve access to addiction care

St. Vincent Charity Medical Center (SVCMC) and University Hospitals have been awarded a $2.89 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to create, in collaboration with SVCMC, the NE Ohio Center for Addiction Research, Prevention, and Education (“CARPE”) Collaborative. This grant, which will be provided over a period of five years, will expand and extend the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in partnership with and alongside the long-standing SVCMC Addiction Medicine Fellowship. Funding will be used to increase the number of board-certified addiction psychiatrists and addiction medicine physicians trained in Northeast Ohio. [More]
