Sisters of Charity Health System ministries to receive $1.6 million in federal appropriations

The Sisters of Charity Health System today announces that it is to receive $1,575,000 in federal appropriations funding for many of its ministries’ programmatic and equipment needs. The measures were included in the FY10 appropriations conference report (H.R. 3288) legislation. Among the ministries to receive federal appropriations are St. Vincent Charity Hospital and St. John West Shore Hospital in Ohio, Healthy Learners and South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families in South Carolina. St. John West Shore and St. Vincent Charity Hospital unveil PACS initiative

In an effort to go to a 100 percent digital, filmless environment, the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) was launched by the radiology departments at St. John West Shore and St. Vincent Charity Hospital on Sept. 28. This integrates all radiology imaging services and enables hospitals to streamline workflow, increase revenue, and improve the quality of overall patient care. It provides access to images and reports via Meditech PCI; access to images for referring physicians from home and in the office via secured web access; and full functional workstations in key Hospital areas such as critical care areas.

St. Vincent Charity Hospital the first in Northeast Ohio to offer T-Spot.TB test

CLEVELAND, OHIO--October 14, 2009—St. Vincent Charity Hospital is the first healthcare provider in Northeast Ohio to offer the T-SPOT.TB—a new blood test that will be used to assist in the diagnosis of tuberculosis faster and more efficiently. Study puts St. Vincent among top 5 in state for spine surgery

Cleveland, OH (October 13, 2009) – A study issued today by HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings organization, finds that St. Vincent Charity Hospital ranks among the top 5 in Ohio for spine surgery. St. Vincent Charity Hospital achieved 5 star ratings in both Spine Surgery and Back and Neck Surgery.  The nation’s nearly 5,000 nonfederal hospitals were all included in the sweeping study, which examined mortality rates and complication rates from government data from 2006, 2007 and 2008. The Sisters of Charity Health System welcomes Joan Ross as chief operating officer

The Sisters of Charity Health System would like to welcome Joan Ross as chief operating officer for St. Vincent Charity Hospital. Ross comes to St. Vincent from Providence Hospitals based in Columbia, South Carolina, where she served as senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer since 2006. At Providence, which was founded by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in 1938 through mortgaging their motherhouse in Lakewood and is now the leading cardiovascular center in South Carolina, Ross developed a culture of patient safety by eliminating silos and enhancing communication across departments. Rosary Hall offering free seminars for Addiction Recovery Month

CLEVELAND, OH—(September 1, 2009)—September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month and the addiction specialists at Rosary Hall at St. Vincent Charity Hospital will be holding seminars to help educate those who may have a loved one who is trapped within the cycle of addiction. This year’s theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Together We Learn, Together We Heal,” emphasizes the need to use all available resources to help educate people about the disease and to help those affected by substance abuse to get support. Congratulations to Dr. Mike Canales and Olympic gold-medal winning gymnast Dominique Moceanu on the birth of their new son Vincent Michael! Dr. Canales, surgeon for The Spine and Orthopedic Institute of St. Vincent Charity Hospital, and wife Dominique Moceanu welcomed their 8 pounds, 9 ounces baby on March 13, 2009. Black Health Empowerment Project: Free and Open to the Public

"Black Health Empowerment Project: Eat, Move and Test for Health" organized by United States Representative Marcia Fudge, will be held Saturday, August 22 at John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio. This event is free and open to the public with doors opening at 9:00 a.m. and concluding at 3:30 p.m. In addition to free breakfast and lunch, the event will provide health and wellness sessions for women, men and seniors; free health screenings and exhibitors; fitness and cooking demonstrations; fun workshops for kids, and more.
