Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton helps Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank near capital goal

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has raised $8.5 million of the $11.5 million needed to build in Canton and expand in Akron, with help from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton and seven other “Leadership Investors” that gave at least $500,000 each. The total expansion will triple cooler space, lessen the travel distance for partners in the greater Canton area and engage up to 300 more pantries, shelters and other agencies. [More]

The U.S. Census Bureau convened faith-based leaders from across the country for the 2020 Census Interfaith Summit February 18 at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., to discuss the importance of encouraging members of their communities to respond to the 2020 Census. Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA, congregational leader for the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, was part of the panel discussion. Rosary Hall donor establishes endowment to help support uninsured and under-insured patients

Gary Storch freely admits that he would not be alive today if it wasn’t for Rosary Hall at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center. He started drinking at the age of 15 and came to Rosary Hall in the late 1970s at the age of 18. He was without health insurance and without money to pay for much-needed alcohol addiction treatment—and without hope. More than 40 years later, he wanted to show his gratitude by donating half of his life savings to establish the Gary and Patty Storch Endowment at Rosary Hall to support uninsured and under-insured patients to help them get treatment. Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA, to be part of 2020 Census Interfaith Partner Summit panel discussion

The 2020 Census starts in a month, when homes across the country will begin receiving invitations to complete the census. The faith community is being asked to help encourage everyone, including hard-to-count individuals and families, to respond to the census. The U.S. Census Bureau is hosting an Interfaith Partner Summit February 18 in Washington, D.C., with faith-based leaders from across the nation for a moderated panel discussion about the 2020 Census to help kick off this faith-based outreach.
