Sr. Judith Ann Karam, CSA Honored by Healthy Learners

Sr. Judith Ann Karam
Healthy Learners presented Sr. Judith Ann Karam, CSA, president and CEO Sisters of Charity Health System, with its most prestigious award, the “In All Things Charity” honor. The award is given to an individual who exhibits sincere commitment and dedication to Healthy Learners and acts as a spokesperson for the organization to enhance community awareness. The recognition came during the organization's appreciation luncheon in South Carolina for volunteers, sponsors and financial supporters.

Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina Elects New Board President


The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina elected Kevin A. Hall as president of the board of trustees. Kevin, who has served on the board since 2002 and succeeds former president John Boudreaux, began his new role in March. He is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP practicing in Columbia, South Carolina. Kevin has extensive experience in class action defense in both state and federal courts, and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for business litigation (2003-2006). Other newly elected board officers include Dennis Dabney, vice president; Yvonne Orr, secretary and Mike McCabe, treasurer.

Caritas Connection and Ministering Together Select
New Leader


Leonard M. Calabrese is the new president of Caritas Connection and the new executive director of Ministering Together. Leonard is well known among regional Catholic and social service organizations. Since 1987, he has served as executive director of the Commission on Catholic Community Action. Caritas Connection is a formal collaboration between the Sisters of Charity Health System and Catholic Charities Health & Human Services, Inc. (CCHHS). In his role at Ministering Together, he will continue the work to encourage collaboration among those ministering in Catholic education, health care, human services, and parishes to better serve the needs of the poor and vulnerable.

Winthrop University College of Business Administration Honors Tom Keith

Tom Keith, executive director of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, was recognized as a charter member of Winthrop University's College of Business Administration Pinnacle Leadership Society at a formal reception in April. Established in 1995, the society honors alumni and others who have demonstrated inspirational leadership, integrity, benevolence and sound business acumen.

Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals Welcomes New President and CEO

The board of trustees of Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals recently appointed George A. Zara as president and CEO. George succeeds Sr. Judith Ann Karam, CSA, who has served in this role since 2006. Sr. Judith Ann will return full-time to her position as president and CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System in Cleveland, OH but will continue as a member of the Providence board. George most recently served as president and CEO of Saint Anthony Hospitals (Centura Health) in Denver.

Mercy Medical Center Welcomes New General Counsel

Matthew A. Heinle recently joined Mercy Medical Center as vice president and general counsel. Previously, Matthew was a co-managing partner in corporate and health law at Brennan, Manna & Diamond in Akron, Ohio, where he practiced from 1995 to 2008. He holds a Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University College of Law and a bachelor's degree in finance from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

St. Vincent Charity and St. John West Shore Hospitals Name Interim V.P. of Cardiovascular & Imaging Services


John Vizzuso has been named the interim vice president of cardiovascular and imaging services at St. Vincent Charity and St. John West Shore Hospitals. In this role, John is providing leadership to the Cardiovascular Imaging Service Line. He works with physicians and caregivers to improve quality outcomes and meet the financial goals of both hospitals. John joined the hospital system in 2006 and has more than 19 years of experience in the field of medical imaging and practice management.

Victoria Conley Receives Urban Light Award

The University of Akron's Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies honored Vicki Conley, executive director of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton, with an Urban Light Award at its annual Partners in Public Service event. The award is presented each year to an individual whose career work has significantly improved the lives of the poor and underserved in greater Akron area.

South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families Appoints New Board Chair

The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families recently appointed Chris Hoefer Myers as its new chairman of its board of trustees. Chris Hoefer Myers is the senior director of development for the University of South Carolina, where she was actively engaged in a recent $500 million university capital campaign. Chris Hoefer Myers was on the Board of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina for ten years.

Board Member of Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland Named One of Top 50 Distinguished Women in Wealth Management


Heather Roulston Ettinger, a member of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland board of directors, has been named one of the Top 50 Distinguished Women in Wealth Management by Wealth Manager magazine. Heather is an executive vice president and senior advisor at Fairport Asset Management in Cleveland. She was the only Cleveland-based professional to make this list, which appeared in the April 2008 issue of the magazine.
