Regina Health Center earns high marks on nursing home surveys
Date: 12/26/2008
.

December 26, 2008:  Cleveland, Ohio - Regina Health Center (RHC) in Richfield, Ohio, has earned excellent marks in two recently released surveys of nursing home quality.

Last week, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a five-star ranking to RHC, the highest overall rating based upon three key areas related to quality of care for nursing home residents: health inspections, quality measures and staffing information. The Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) this week announced results of its family members satisfaction survey with Regina Health Center listed among the top 10 nursing homes in the state of Ohio.

"We're extremely proud of our rankings," said Brian J. Flannery, executive director of Regina Health Center. "These two rating systems approach quality of care from different aspects. The national CMS study focuses on quality through data on compliance with regulations, clinical outcomes and staffing while the ODA survey focuses on consumer feedback. Both types of measurement are important. No survey, however, can take the place of visiting the home in person and talking to staff and family members of other residents."

Both results were released as the Ohio Department of Aging kicks off "Visit a Nursing Home Week" from Dec. 24-31. Results of the federal survey, which do not include resident and family satisfaction rankings, are on the CMS web site: www.medicare.gov/NHCompare.

Funded by the state of Ohio, the 2008 family satisfaction survey is written and compiled by the Scripps Gerontology Institute out of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The survey asks consumers to rank the nursing home on 12 aspects of quality of care and service through a 66-question survey. Regina Health Center's overall score of 96.9 out of 100 ranked it 9th highest in Ohio. The results of the survey are on the ODA Consumer Guide web site: http://www.ltcohio.org/.

"We're proud of our staff," said Flannery. "They excel in areas that are critically important to residents and families-trust, dependability, compassion, respect and skilled training."

Located on 230 acres in Richfield, Ohio, as one of the 20 sponsored ministries of the Sisters of Charity Health System, Regina Health Center provides compassionate and holistic health care services for members of religious communities, clergy and lay people needing supportive services or residential nursing care. Regina Health Center provides a full range of quality of life programming that affirms the dignity and fullness of life for each individual resident. More information on Regina Health Center is available at http://www.reginahealthcenter.org
