MICHAEL WOOLEY, MSSA, LISW NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF JOSEPH'S HOME

CLEVELAND, Ohio/February 10, 2006 - Michael Wooley, MSSA, LISW has joined Joseph's Home as Executive Director. He succeeds Sr. Joan Gallagher, CSA who, in coordination with the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, founded the facility in 2000. Sr. Joan had served as Executive Director since 2000 and recently began her retirement. The announcement was made by Joseph's Home Board Chair Thomas Lanning, M.D.
Previously, Mr. Wooley was Executive Director of Lutheran Children's Aid & Family Services in Cleveland for two years. Prior to that, he worked for three years as Director of Operations for Cleveland's West Side Ecumenical Ministry.
"Mr. Wooley brings more than 30 years of experience in non-profit management at faith-based social service organizations," Dr Lanning said. "The Board is confident that Joseph's Home will continue to be an effective resource for our community under his leadership," Dr Lanning said.
Located at 2412 Community College Avenue near downtown Cleveland, Joseph's Home provides residential space for 11 homeless men who are referred from other social service agencies, shelters and health care facilities. Referred residents may be recovering from a variety of conditions or require temporary home health care following surgery, stroke or new medications for diabetes or chronic asthma. Private rooms in the two-story building accommodate residents who may typically remain for four to six months.
While recuperating from illness, residents agree to participate in activities of daily living and programs designed to foster self-esteem, goal-setting, life skills and ongoing recovery. The eight-person staff is supplemented by various partner agencies, including St. Vincent Charity Hospital and Care Alliance. During its five years of service, Joseph's Home has served almost 200 men and most have moved on to permanent housing and employment.
Joseph's Home is one of several health and social service organizations sponsored by the Cleveland-based Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine Health System (CSA Health System) in Cleveland and Canton, Ohio, and Columbia, South Carolina. It is the only facility of its kind in Northeast Ohio and one of just a few nationwide.
"Mr.Wooley's professional expertise, as well as his proven commitment to the poor and underserved in our community, will be a tremendous asset in shaping the future of Joseph's Home," said CSA Health System President & CEO Sr. Judith Ann Karam, CSA.
From 1985 to 2000, Mr. Wooley served in various administrative positions within the Diocese of Cleveland, including Director of the Consultation Center, Development Director for the office of Catholic Education and Quality Improvement Coordinator for Catholic Charities Services Corporation at Parmadale. He moved to Cleveland after working for four years as Director of the Family Counseling Department at Catholic Charities in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Wooley began his career in non-profit administration in 1971 at Children's Aid & Family Services in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He followed that position with three years as Chief of the Army Community Mental Health Activity in Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
A native of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Mr. Wooley is a graduate of Geneva College in Beaver Falls and holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from Case Western Reserve University. Mr. Wooley currently resides in Cleveland.
