Sisters of Charity Health System Commits $3 Million to Support Behavioral Health Crisis Center Led by The Centers

The Sisters of Charity Health System has announced a $3 million funding commitment to support the development of a Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC) led by The Centers. The funding announcement marks a landmark investment in the behavioral health infrastructure of Cuyahoga County and a commitment to create a crisis receiving and stabilization center in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood to support individuals experiencing a mental health and/or addiction emergency.

Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland Announces Return of Grantmaking and Restart of Operations

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland today announced the official restart of its philanthropic operations following a strategic pause in operations that began at the end of 2024 as leadership transitions happened at the Foundation and the Sisters of Charity Health System. After a period of reflection and strategic planning, the Foundation is resuming its longstanding mission with a focus on addressing the social drivers of health by supporting the needs of people and families primarily in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood.

Goodwill and Sisters of Charity Health System Explore New Opportunity Center in Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood

Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio and the Sisters of Charity Health System (SCHS) are exploring an exciting new collaboration aimed at further uplifting Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood. The centerpiece of this potential partnership is a proposed Goodwill Opportunity Center, to be located on the former grounds of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center at 2351 East 22nd Street. The proposed Center will serve as a dynamic resource—not only for Goodwill’s mission-based programs—but also for additional community agencies, creating greater access to vital social services for the residents of Central and the broader Cleveland community.

Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood Hires New Program Director

The Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood, which is a program of the Sisters of Charity Health System, has hired Catondra Noye as its new program director. The Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood works with multiple partners in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood to break the cycle of poverty and address social drivers of health by advancing family health, education, social capital, stability and economics. Noye brings 25 years of experience as a community-focused leader with organizations around the country.

St. Vincent Charity Community Health Center Transitioning Psychiatric Emergency Services to MetroHealth Effective July 1

Psychiatric emergency services will transition from St. Vincent Charity Community Health Center to The MetroHealth System effective July 1, 2024. This is the result of the determination by the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County that psychiatric emergency services should be offered by a hospital with access to a full psychiatric emergency department. As St. Vincent Charity closes its psychiatric emergency services unit June 30, MetroHealth is preparing to open a new psychiatric emergency department on its Cleveland Heights campus later this fall.

Sisters of Charity Health System Announces Experienced Nonprofit Leader Michael Goar As Next President and CEO

After an extensive national search, the Sisters of Charity Health System has named Michael J. Goar as its new President and CEO, to lead the Cleveland-based Catholic nonprofit in its next era of service. Goar, an accomplished executive with over 25 years driving impact for mission-driven organizations, will assume the role on July 22, 2024, succeeding Jan Murphy, M.S.N., FACHE.

Dr. Ted Parran and Dr. Mykola Kolganov Named Co-Medical Directors at Rosary Hall Addiction Treatment Program

Northeast Ohio addiction medicine experts, Dr. Ted Parran and Dr. Mykola Kolganov, have been named co-medical directors of Rosary Hall, the historic alcohol and drug treatment center housed at St. Vincent Charity Community Health Center. Rosary Hall offers innovative treatments, personalized care plans, intensive outpatient rehabilitation and groundbreaking addiction treatment research.

Goodwill launches campaign to bring Opportunity Center to St. Vincent Charity Health & Healing Hub

Momentum at the St. Vincent Charity Health & Healing Hub continues to build, especially with Goodwill's recent launch of a $40 million campaign to build a 60,000–80,000 sq. ft. Opportunity Center on the Hub in Cleveland's Central neighborhood. Through a partnership with Goodwill Industries of Greater Cleveland and East Central Ohio, Inc., the Center will be a one-stop hub for employment services, career programming, groceries, nonprofit partners, and more.

Remembering Sister Mary Jacob Yelcho, CSA

We mourn the loss of one of our leaders, Sr. Mary Jacob Yelcho, CSA, and a beloved Sister of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine. Sr. Mary Jaocb Yelcho was called home to eternal rest on May 28, 2026. For 24 years, she served at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, as its president/executive director from 1967 until 1991, leading with with steadfast courage, dedication to her staff, and a profound commitment to the community. Her friendship, humor and kind soul will be deeply missed.

Transformation of Cleveland's Central neighborhood continues with completion of Sankofa Villa housing redevelopment

Sisters of Charity Health System President & CEO Michael Goar joined local politicians, dignitaries and other community stakeholders who were speakers at the recent ribbon cutting for the grand opening of Sankofa Village phase IV. The final phase added 50 high-quality, affordable rental homes and completed the 236-unit, $115 million Cedar Extension Transformation Plan in Cleveland's Central neighborhood.
