Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina grantee launches female photovoice project

The Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network (WREN) recently held a kick-off meeting with seven organizational partners to launch the Seen and Heard: Women and Girls in the Midlands photovoice project.

The project, supported by a grant from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina and the Central Carolina Community Foundation, will enable partners to elevate the voices of women and gender minorities across the region through critical dialogue and photography. Photographs taken by participants will be showcased in exhibits this spring as a way to shed light on the opportunities and barriers that women face within the Midlands.

“We are so excited about this project, because it gives us an opportunity to hear from diverse women and girls in our community about the challenges and opportunities they face day to day,” said Ann Warner, CEO of WREN. “We hope that the photography exhibits will create new connections and inspire more people to work collaboratively to create better communities for all who live in the region.”

Partners include, but are not limited to: Sowing Seeds into the Midlands, Every Black Girl, PASOS, Homeless No More, Girls Rock Columbia, The Hive Community Circle, and Indie Grits Lab.

The Women’s Rights and Empowerment Network (WREN) is a South Carolina nonprofit, non-partisan network that is building a movement to advance the health, economic well-being, and rights of South Carolina’s women, girls, and their families. WREN provides a strong, collective voice for South Carolina’s women and girls.
