Service league raises $185,000 for Mercy transformation project

At its annual membership banquet held recently in Canton, the Mercy Service League presented Mercy Medical Center with proceeds from the 2016 Harvest Ball, which totaled $185,000. Last year’s Harvest Ball benefitted Mercy’s facility transformation project to renovate the fifth floor orthopedic/observation unit.

“Mercy Service League is made up of a passionate, caring and very active group of volunteers, and since the group’s inception in 1975, the service league has played a vital role in helping Mercy carry out its mission,” says Elaine Campbell, director of Mercy Development Foundation. “Their work continually benefits patients, families and communities Mercy serves in real and tangible ways.”

Under the leadership of outgoing president Anna Mavrakis, who just completed a successful two-year term, Mercy Service League continued to grow in membership and projects. The group held its inaugural Wine Women & Shoes event earlier this month in Canton. The new fundraiser, which sold out several months in advance, offered attendees an upscale afternoon of shopping, wine tasting, silent and live auctions, and a high-energy fashion show, raising more than $250,000 to benefit Women’s Cancer Services at Mercy Medical Center.

Mercy Service League will hold its signature fundraising event, the 2017 Harvest Ball, on Saturday, October 21, at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. This year’s theme will be Feast & Fantasy, and as always, it will be an evening of excitement, elegance, and music—the area’s only gala featuring no auction, no wallet, and no program.
