Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina expands reach of Carolina Academy

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has partnered with the United Way of York County to create the Carolina Academy York County. The new academy, based on the foundation’s Carolina Academy model, provides resources and training to community leaders in the nonprofit sector in York County, South Carolina.

Since 2008, the Carolina Academy has become a place for community leaders, nonprofit practitioners and leaders, faith-based groups, foundation representatives, government and academia, and other selected organizations to engage in a dynamic and energizing environment for gaining and sharing knowledge. The convening of people to find solutions to issues around poverty, systemic change and community improvement is at the core of the foundation’s mission.

“The United Way of York County is honored to partner with the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina in establishing the Carolina Academy for our area,” said Rebecca Melton, president of United Way of York County. “The goal of our partnership is to provide a series of training opportunities for nonprofits to strengthen and enhance their operations while allowing continuous learning to better serve those who are in need.”

Foundation President Tom Keith said, “We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the United Way of York County. This partnership is an important extension of our foundation’s capacity building program and our continuing effort to strengthen the nonprofits in the region.”

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
