Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina elects new board of trustees chair and adds three new members

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina recently elected Rick Mendoza to serve as the chair of its board of trustees, and added three new board members.

Mendoza joined the foundation board in 2010. He is a member of Nexsen Pruet, LLC and practices in the areas of creditors’ rights and bankruptcy law. He is a certified bankruptcy and debtor-creditor law specialist in South Carolina, and currently serves as chair of the South Carolina Bankruptcy and Debtor-Creditor Law Specialization Advisory Board.

Mendoza has received the William E.S. Robinson Public Service Award of the South Carolina Bankruptcy Law Association and has been selected for The Best Lawyers in America for bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights law. He was also chosen for the seventh Midlands Class of The Riley Institute at Furman Diversity Leaders Initiative (DLI). The DLI focuses on diversity leadership, community building, and communication and collaboration skills.

Also joining the foundation’s board were:

  • Elizabeth “Beth” Dinndorf, who is the 18th president of Columbia College. Under her leadership, Columbia College has embarked on a bold new direction to more fully integrate real-world experiences and career preparation with a liberal arts education.
  • Lisa Garnett Bernardin is a former juvenile justice attorney with the Children’s Law Center in the role of supervision of juvenile Justice section, including statewide support and training for juvenile justice professionals.
  • Mike McCabe first joined the foundation board in 2005 and served three terms for a total of nine years. He returns to the board to chair the governance committee and sit on the finance committee. He is currently a senior vice president and financial advisor with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.
