St. Vincent Charity Medical Center expands services in Cleveland’s suburbs

St. Vincent Charity Medical Center expanded its patient care offerings in July with the addition of the St. Vincent Charity Surgery Center at Rockside in Independence, Ohio. Formerly a physician-owned outpatient surgery center, it became a hospital-based facility when St. Vincent Charity Medical Center assumed the lease for the center.

“This new lease arrangement expands our footprint and allows us to maximize scheduling for outpatient and inpatient procedures between the Rockside location and our downtown campus,” said David F. Perse, M.D., president and CEO of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center. “It also expands our footprint along Rockside Road and complements our existing physician offices, imaging center and outpatient physical therapy.”

The St. Vincent Charity Surgery Center becomes a centerpiece for the outpatient procedures driven by the hospital’s Spine and Orthopedic Institute. A team of 15 experienced orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons and foot and ankle surgeons are part of the institute. This seasoned team has performed more than 30,000 procedures, ranging from the advanced procedures such as minimally invasive spine surgery and computer-assisted orthopedic surgery to total joint replacement and fusions. It is also able to do outpatient procedures such as arthroscopies, pain blocks and manipulation under anesthesia (MUA).

The surgery center will also accommodate other outpatient surgical procedures performed by St. Vincent Charity Medical Center physicians. It is equipped with three operating rooms and one endoscopy room. In addition to the procedure rooms, designated areas provide patients with pre- and post-surgical recovery care and a large, comfortable waiting area is available for family and friends.

“The beauty of the St. Vincent Charity Surgery Center is that it allows us to focus the right care at the right place. We can have smaller procedures done at the new Rockside location and create the opportunity for more complex inpatient cases at the downtown campus,” said Hugh Pearson, director of the St. Vincent Medical Group and the St. Vincent Charity Surgery Center.

St. Vincent Charity Surgery Center complements the existing St. Vincent Charity physician offices, imaging center and outpatient physical therapy in the area. St. Vincent Charity Medical Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
