Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina’s Katrina Spigner receives TWIN Award

The Palmetto Center for Women (PCW) honored Katrina Spigner, senior program director at the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina, with a 2014 Education TWIN Award at its 34th annual TWIN Awards Tuesday, January 14, in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Tribute to Women in Industry (TWIN) Awards recognize women for their outstanding achievements as leaders and role models in business and the community. Since the inception of the TWIN Awards in 1980, more than 500 women have been honored. This year, PCW recognized eight women as honorees within these respective categories: Corporate, Entrepreneur, Arts, Education, Volunteerism, Health and Wellness, Government, and Inspiring Young Women.

Spigner is responsible for specific grantee-initiated grantmaking functions at the foundation, including design, grant review, implementation, and management processes for the foundation’s strategic grantmaking program. She also provides oversight for the foundation’s Carolina Academy, where she is responsible for the development and implementation of capacity building opportunities for nonprofit organizations and nonprofit leaders across the state. She joined the foundation in 2005.

Spigner holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College and a master of social work degree from the University of South Carolina. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in organizational leadership at Northeastern University.

Ms. Spigner is a 2006 Southeastern Council of Foundations Hull Fellow. She serves on numerous boards and committees, including Clemson University Youth Learning Institute Advisory Board and the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine Health System Diversity Task Force.
Formerly the YWCA of the Midlands, the Palmetto Center for Women seeks to provide a home and meeting place for the development of women. The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System.
