Light of Hearts Villa receives $25,000 over 12 years from longtime supporter’s annual charity golf outing

Chuck St. John, a longtime supporter of Light of Hearts Villa, has raised $25,000 over 12 years for the facility through his annual Stupjansky-Virag Paprikash Open golf outing. Located in Bedford, Ohio, at the former Lumen Cordium High School, Light of Hearts Villa is a supportive residential community for seniors. It is a joint ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System and the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.

This year’s September golf outing had a record 80 golfers and raised $1,250, which St. John matched with a $1,250 donation to present Light of Hearts Villa with a check for $2,500 on October 10. The money supports the Light of Hearts Villa Benevolent Fund, which helps seniors who have financial difficulties stay at the facility.

“Our family has been involved with Light of Hearts Villa since it was established in 1989 by the Vincentian Sisters of Charity of Bedford. Light of Hearts Villa has a tremendous mission and ministry in providing a supportive, nurturing environment for seniors. They do great work and we wanted to support their mission, so we started the golf outing in 2000 to help do our part to raise much-needed funds,” said St. John.

The Stupjansky-Virag Paprikash Open golf outing is held each August at Shawnee Hills Golf Course. The annual event includes 18 holes of golf, door prizes, drinks and food, including chicken paprikash to honor St. John’s Slovakian and Hungarian heritage. The name of the event, Stupjansky-Virag, comes from combining St. John’s family’s Slovakian surname and his wife’s maiden name (Virag), which is Hungarian. “Our residents and employees are grateful that Chuck St. John and his family are so closely involved with Light of Hearts Villa and have chosen to financially support our mission of serving seniors with grace and integrity through money raised at the annual golf outing,” said Light of Hearts Villa Executive Director Elizabeth Hickle.
