Providence Heart & Vascular Institute earns BlueCross BlueShield highest cardiac care rating

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina again named Providence Hospitals’ Providence Heart & Vascular Institute a “Blue Distinction Center+” for cardiac care. The distinction singles out leading institutions that deliver better outcomes in patient care and meet strict clinical criteria developed by national organizations, such as the American College of Cardiology and The Society ofThoracic Surgeons.

The award means that Providence met and exceeded BlueCross’ highest standard for quality and cost in cardiac care. Only three other hospitals in South Carolina achieved this designation by BlueCross BlueShield for cardiac care.

“Providence has built a solid reputation as the heart hospital, and being named a Blue Distinction Center+ again by BlueCross affirms that reputation.” said George Zara, president and CEO of Providence Hospitals. “We are proud of our record of cardiac care excellence and making heart health a goal within reach for all our patients.”

As a part of Providence Hospitals’ mission to provide the best care for its patients through its healing ministry, Providence continues to find innovative ways to treat some of the most difficult heart conditions in South Carolina. Most recently, the hospital became the first in the Midlands to perform the innovative TAVR surgery, to replace aortic valves in patients that were previously inoperable. This spring, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons extended its highest rating to Providence, three stars, for the 13th consecutive rating period. Providence has achieved this rating since the accolade’s inception.
