Mercy Medical Center honors five nurses with clinical excellence awards

In recognition of National Nurses Week (May 6 – 12), Mercy Medical Center honored five of its clinical staff members with Nursing Excellence Awards, which were presented during Mercy’s annual Clinical Excellence Luncheon May 8.

The hospital’s 2013 winners included Rachel Beard, RN; Kathleen Hinton, RN; Vicki Jessop, RN, BSN, CWS, PSC; Susan Lohmeyer, RN; and Dennis Maio, RN, BSN. Maio was also selected as the 2013 Cameo of Caring recipient and will be honored by The University of Akron in October as Mercy’s representative.

"Nursing is at the very heart of our mission at Mercy,” says Barbara Yingling, RN, BSN, MAed, vice president and chief nursing officer. “This year’s five award recipients again epitomize quality, compassionate care for our patients and serve as role models for other staff members, as well as volunteers and students who aspire to a career in nursing.”

Mercy also congratulated Melanie Busby, RN, 7 Main; Rita Hupp, RN, Cardiovascular Surgical Care Unit (CVSCU); Lohmeyer; and Laurie Yeagley, RN, Intensive Care Unit, who were nominated in the Canton Repository’s Salute to Nurses contest.
