Sisters of Charity Health System Announces Leadership Transition

The Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, which is the founding religious community of the Sisters of Charity Health System, recently elected Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA to the position of congregational leader. Sister Judith Ann has announced her resignation as the Sisters of Charity Health System’s president and CEO, effective July 26. In light of her role as congregational leader, Sister Judith Ann will assume the role of chair of the Public Juridic Person of Pontifical Right (PJP) of the Sisters of Charity Health System. The PJP is the health system’s Catholic sponsor. Sister Judith Ann will also serve as a member of the Sisters of Charity Health System Board of Directors. Additionally, she will continue her participation on the Catholic Health Association of the United States of America Board of Directors, among many other national and local health and human service leadership commitments. Expanding Medicaid coverage to newly eligible adults below 138% of the federal poverty level will cover an estimated 450,000 uninsured Ohioans and 250,000 uninsured South Carolinians. Health System Leaders Continue Call to Extend Medicaid

Through the Affordable Care Act, states may expand Medicaid coverage to persons up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. Increasing access to Medicaid will give 450,000 to 600,000 uninsured Ohioans and approximately 250,000 uninsured South Carolinians the dignity of health insurance. The debate is in the state legislatures. Voices are needed now to encourage extension of Medicaid coverage. [More]
