Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA, congregational leader for the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, received the Health Legacy Award for Excellence October 11 at the 2015 Health Legacy of Cleveland award and scholarship dinner. Every other year, Health Legacy of Cleveland hosts the dinner to present the award and name individuals to its health equity honor roll. The event also raises funds to provide scholarships and purposeful public programming aimed at inspiring African-American Cleveland area students to become physicians and dentists through education. The Sisters of Charity Health System is deeply saddened by the passing of former Congressman Louis Stokes on August 18 at the age of 90. We extend our sympathies to the Stokes family and the many lives touched by the Congressman. During his storied career, Congressman Stokes was a staunch advocate for social and economic justice, education, health care and other causes that impacted the lives of many. Both on a national level and around Cleveland, he was a transformational leader who helped create needed and enduring social change. Sister Ignatia Gavin, CSA honored at Alcoholic Anonymous International Assembly

More than 85,000 people gathered July 2nd – 5th, at the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) International Assembly in Atlanta. There, Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA, accepted the 35 millionth copy of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous on behalf of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in memory of Sister Ignatia Gavin, CSA, who was commonly referred to as the “angel of Alcoholics Anonymous.” The convention marked AA’s 80th anniversary.
