St. John West Shore and St. Vincent Charity Hospital unveil PACS initiative

In an effort to go to a 100 percent digital, filmless environment, the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) was launched by the radiology departments at St. John West Shore and St. Vincent Charity Hospital on Sept. 28. This integrates all radiology imaging services and enables hospitals to streamline workflow, increase revenue, and improve the quality of overall patient care. It provides access to images and reports via Meditech PCI; access to images for referring physicians from home and in the office via secured web access; and full functional workstations in key Hospital areas such as critical care areas.

Providence Hospitals begins pet therapy program

Providence Hospitals has a new staff member—Annie, a four-year-old Labradoodle, has been added as part of a new pet therapy program.  Studies have shown a decrease in blood pressure and stress levels and an improvement in emotional well-being in patients during therapy dog visits. Annie, a member of Therapy Dogs International owned by retired marketing specialist John Scheble, spent her “first day on the job” visiting patients and staff in various departments throughout the hospital, including the Emergency department and recovery units.  Annie, who also volunteers at local nursing homes and the library, will begin visiting patients once a week as part of the new program.

St. Vincent Charity Hospital the first in Northeast Ohio to offer T-Spot.TB test

CLEVELAND, OHIO--October 14, 2009—St. Vincent Charity Hospital is the first healthcare provider in Northeast Ohio to offer the T-SPOT.TB—a new blood test that will be used to assist in the diagnosis of tuberculosis faster and more efficiently. Study puts St. Vincent among top 5 in state for spine surgery

Cleveland, OH (October 13, 2009) – A study issued today by HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings organization, finds that St. Vincent Charity Hospital ranks among the top 5 in Ohio for spine surgery. St. Vincent Charity Hospital achieved 5 star ratings in both Spine Surgery and Back and Neck Surgery.  The nation’s nearly 5,000 nonfederal hospitals were all included in the sweeping study, which examined mortality rates and complication rates from government data from 2006, 2007 and 2008. Tahir named chief medical officer for Sisters of Charity Health System

Dr. Adnan Tahir, chief medical officer at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, has also been named chief medical officer of the Sisters of Charity Health System. In his new capacity, he also will serve as chief medical officer of the SCHS Quality Committee Board. Dr. Tahir received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut where he also did his residency. He has been with St. Vincent Charity Hospital for more than 17 years. As chief medical officer, Tahir will work with medical staff to establish and maintain high level of quality care and patient safety. Joining Tahir on the quality committee board as chair will be Dr. Richard Christie, director of graduate medical education at St. Vincent.

Mercy Radiology awarded three-year reaccreditation in MRI

Canton, Ohio:  Mercy Radiology was recently awarded another three-year term of accreditation in MRI as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The Sisters of Charity Health System welcomes Joan Ross as chief operating officer

The Sisters of Charity Health System would like to welcome Joan Ross as chief operating officer for St. Vincent Charity Hospital. Ross comes to St. Vincent from Providence Hospitals based in Columbia, South Carolina, where she served as senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer since 2006. At Providence, which was founded by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in 1938 through mortgaging their motherhouse in Lakewood and is now the leading cardiovascular center in South Carolina, Ross developed a culture of patient safety by eliminating silos and enhancing communication across departments. Healthy Learners launches new corporate identity

Healthy Learners has launched a new identity, mission and vision statement that connects to Sisters of Charity Health System. The new Mission Statement is, "In the spirit of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Healthy Learners is devoted to removing children's health barriers to learning with love and compassion". The new Vision Statement is, "Our vision is that all children are healthy and able to reach their full potential." August 10th was a soft rollout date of the new identity with Labor Day slated as the target date for the full implementation of the new image for Healthy Learners. See more here! More...
