Hall, MD, a physician at St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, has published a book about tattoos and piercings titled Teens, Tattoos and Piercings: The health and social impact of permanent body art. For the eighth year in a row, evaluation results have shown that SPARK children begin school better prepared to succeed than their peers. Providence Heart & Vascular Institute unveils new, exclusive aortic valve surgery

Providence Hospitals recently announced that it is the exclusive home of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) surgery in the Midlands of South Carolina. The intricate procedure is for those patients with aortic stenosis—who are at high risk for traditional aortic valve surgery—to have their constricted aortic valve replaced without opening the chest.

St. Vincent Charity Medical Center’s Health Literacy Institute helps patients understand and act on health care information

Only 12 percent of American adults are proficient at understanding and acting on health care information and up to 80 percent of medical information provided by health care providers is forgotten immediately by patients. In 2007, with funding from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center started the Health Literacy Institute in collaboration with Project Learn to help address these issues.
