Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood seeking mentors and 8th graders; holding training session Thursday Dec. 5

The Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland are launching a new mentoring program for 8th grade students that live in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood. A one-hour training session for adult mentors is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office. They are looking for adults who have four hours a month to offer and 8th graders who would like mentors. [More]

St. Vincent Charity Medical Center’s Health Literacy Institute helps patients understand and act on health care information

Only 12 percent of American adults are proficient at understanding and acting on health care information and up to 80 percent of medical information provided by health care providers is forgotten immediately by patients. In 2007, with funding from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center started the Health Literacy Institute in collaboration with Project Learn to help address these issues.
