Sister Ignatia Gavin, CSA honored at Alcoholic Anonymous International Assembly

More than 85,000 people gathered July 2nd – 5th, at the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) International Assembly in Atlanta. There, Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA, accepted the 35 millionth copy of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous on behalf of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in memory of Sister Ignatia Gavin, CSA, who was commonly referred to as the “angel of Alcoholics Anonymous.” The convention marked AA’s 80th anniversary. Sisters of Charity Health System Announces President and CEO

The Sisters of Charity Health System today announced the appointment of Terrence P. Kessler as president and CEO, a role he has served in an interim capacity since July 2013.

As president and CEO, Kessler oversees the health system’s five Catholic hospitals, two skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, three grantmaking foundations, and six health and human services organizations in Ohio and South Carolina. Sisters of Charity Health System shares video annual report to the community

Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA, president and CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System, recently hosted a series of presentations on the state of the Sisters of Charity Health System. Hundreds of board members, leaders, caregivers, employees and friends of the health system and its ministries participated in the events, which were held in Cleveland and Canton, Ohio, and Columbia, South Carolina. As featured in a 5-minute video, the presentations highlighted the collective accomplishments in the past year of the health system and its family of ministries, which includes five acute care Catholic hospitals, two elder care facilities, three grantmaking foundations and six outreach organizations. Sisters of Charity Health System Announces Leadership Transition

The Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, which is the founding religious community of the Sisters of Charity Health System, recently elected Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA to the position of congregational leader. Sister Judith Ann has announced her resignation as the Sisters of Charity Health System’s president and CEO, effective July 26. In light of her role as congregational leader, Sister Judith Ann will assume the role of chair of the Public Juridic Person of Pontifical Right (PJP) of the Sisters of Charity Health System. The PJP is the health system’s Catholic sponsor. Sister Judith Ann will also serve as a member of the Sisters of Charity Health System Board of Directors. Additionally, she will continue her participation on the Catholic Health Association of the United States of America Board of Directors, among many other national and local health and human service leadership commitments. Sisters of Charity Health System President and CEO Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA, joined other leaders from the Northeast Ohio Medicaid Expansion Coalition on January 24 for a Medicaid Expansion Assembly organized by Greater Cleveland Congregations. The Northeast Ohio Medicaid Expansion Coalition is a group of allies working together to encourage the state of Ohio to act upon the provision in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by expanding Medicaid to persons living below 138 percent of the federal poverty level.
