Early Childhood Resource Center Executive Director Angela Moses has been announced as one of the 35 visionaries shaping Ohio's future as appointed by the Leadership Ohio program, Class of 2024. Leadership Ohio is the state’s only leadership development program that connects diverse leaders from across Ohio to promote positive change. After receiving a record 147 nominations through a competitive selection process, the organization appointed 35 individuals as 2024 Leadership Ohio Fellows.…

The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families works to help dads overcome obstacles to being responsible and nurturing role models for their kids, which it highlights in its recently released 2023 impact report. The center served 51% more dads in 2023, serving more than 2,400 dads who received services like health screenings, parenting classes, legal guidance, relationship education and financial instruction.…

The Sisters of Charity Health System announced that president and CEO Janice G. Murphy, MSN, FACHE, has decided to retire in 2024 after six years of dedicated service. She will step down once her successor has been appointed. Murphy first joined the Health System in 2018 as senior vice president of mission and ministry. In 2019, she became president & CEO of St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, leading it through the COVID-19 pandemic. She then took on her current role overseeing the entire Health System in 2021.…
Cuyahoga County and community partners - including the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland - announced January 29 a new plan to work toward ending homelessness for youth and young adults. The plan, funded by a $3.9 million renewable grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will provide immediate relief and work to address root causes of homelessness.…
Light of Hearts Villa received zero deficiencies during its annual state survey in December from the Ohio Department of Health, which is an accomplishment that is difficult to attain in the highly regulated world of assisted living. A deficiency-free or zero-deficiency survey means that the community was operating in total compliance with state regulations regarding the care to residents, services provided and overall environment. Each year, all assisted living communities in Ohio are surveyed to ensure they are providing a safe environment for all residents.…
With funding from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton and the Stark Community Foundation, Refuge of Hope Ministries recently opened an eight-bed temporary emergency shelter in Canton to give women experiencing homelessness a warm place to stay. The emergency shelter fills a need during winter months as the current waitlist is 2-3 weeks for women seeking shelter in Stark County.…
Joseph & Mary's Home hosted its annual Perseverance in Hope Benefit Luncheon in Cleveland in the fall, setting a new record by raising $113,500 to support healing and assistance with permanent housing. The South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families has been helping fathers like Lorin Jackson for 25 years. By completing the center's program and getting help along the way, he was able to get the only gift he wanted this Christmas, legal shared custody of his son. WACH FOX57 in Columbia, South Carolina, ran a story about Jackson and his work with the center, with multiple NBC affiliates across the country picking up the story and running it on Christmas day.…

The Cleveland Central Promise Neighborhood annually honors Central Neighborhood people and organizations who have significantly improved the lives of those who live and work in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood with its Champions of Central award. The Promise Neighborhood recently held a community meeting and celebration at the Friendly Inn Settlement House to honor more than 20 people and organizations as “2023 Champions of Central.”…
Sister Judith Ann Karam, CSA, congregational leader of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, was one of five community leaders who received the prestigious 2023 Cleveland Heritage Medal at a November 16 ceremony inside the Cleveland City Hall Rotunda. The award, begun in 2016 and modeled on the Presidential Medal of Freedom, is the highest award bestowed on a civilian in Greater Cleveland. The Heritage Medal recognizes “meritorious contributions to the welfare and development of Greater Cleveland and its citizens.”…
It’s almost time for #weGiveCatholic 2023, the annual online day of Catholic giving. The 24-hour event happens November 28, which is also Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving for nonprofits. The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton recently underwent a strategic planning process, learning about the impact its current work is having and how it can deepen that work into the future. The foundation gathered diverse perspectives from throughout the community via surveys, focus groups and key informant interviews. The result is a new strategic plan that will guide work through 2026 and will continue to advance the mission of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine to support the ever-changing needs of the community.…

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awarded 100 grants totaling $877,000 to nonprofit organizations working to reduce poverty in South Carolina. This year’s grant recipients serve all 46 counties in South Carolina, and many of these nonprofits provide services across the state. Since 1996, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded more than 3,300 grants to South Carolina nonprofits, which total more than $83 million.…
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton is inviting proposals for projects aimed at bolstering the operational capacity of local nonprofit organizations. Up to $15,000 in funding will be granted per proposal. Eligible applicants are nongovernmental, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations that have missions in alignment with the foundation’s mission and that: serve Stark, Wayne, Holmes, Tuscarawas, and/or Carroll counties; serve people experiencing poverty or other underserved populations; focus on health, education, or social services; and have annual operating budgets under $10 million.…
