For the eighth year in a row, evaluation results have shown that SPARK children begin school better prepared to succeed than their peers. St. Vincent Charity Medical Center’s Health Literacy Institute helps patients understand and act on health care information

Only 12 percent of American adults are proficient at understanding and acting on health care information and up to 80 percent of medical information provided by health care providers is forgotten immediately by patients. In 2007, with funding from the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center started the Health Literacy Institute in collaboration with Project Learn to help address these issues.
