Health care and community leaders welcome new SCHS president & CEO at GCHI event

Cleveland and Northeast Ohio medical and community leaders recently gathered at the Global Center for Health Innovation to welcome Thomas J. Strauss as president & CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System. More than 300 community and industry leaders gathered for the event, which featured a keynote from Tom, as well as remarks from Sister Judith Ann Karam CSA, congregational leader of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine; Robert Spangler M.D., board chair of the Sisters of Charity Health System; and Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish. Sisters of Charity Health System continues to oppose proposed House GOP ACA repeal bill and Medicaid cuts

The House is scheduled to vote March 23 on legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The American Health Care Act would impose major structural changes and funding limits to the Medicaid program, disrupting coverage for some of our nation's most vulnerable populations. The legislation also would replace current subsidies for coverage under the ACA with tax credits that will disproportionately exclude the poor, the sick and older Americans from affordable coverage. The Sisters of Charity Health System is strongly opposed to the House GOP’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) “Repeal and Replace” legislation that asks the low-income and most vulnerable in our country to bear the brunt of the cuts to our health care system. In addition to moving away from an effective coverage expansion that has provided health care to more than 20 million working people, this proposal would also take many backward steps in the continual effort to improve our health care system.
