To health and wellness for individuals, families and communities
In November 2011, Providence Heart and Vascular Institute was again recognized for its quality outcomes. For the tenth consecutive rating period, Providence Heart and Vascular Institute received “3 stars,” the highest quality rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).
The rating places Providence Heart and Vascular Institute among the top programs in the country, with less than 15% of the 1,000 open heart surgery programs in the United States receiving 3 stars.
“We are driven to deliver the best possible clinical outcomes in our cardiovascular surgery program,” states Edward “Mac” Leppard, M.D., cardiovascular surgeon at Providence Heart and Vascular Institute. “We are pleased that we have once again demonstrated this commitment and are eager to share with people that there is a quality heart program in Columbia, South Carolina.”
Providence has received the 3-star rating since the inception of the comprehensive rating system developed by STS in 2006.
“The STS ranking, as an independent measurement service, is one that proves the experience and outcomes of our heart program stand out,” says Providence President and CEO George Zara. “Quality and patient satisfaction are the heart and soul of Providence. Thanks to our highly skilled and dedicated heart team, we have completed five years in an elite group of heart surgery programs not only in South Carolina, but in the nation as well.”
