Susanna H. Krey has served as President of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland since 2003. During her tenure she has helped to expand key initiatives focused on housing, health, and collaborative strategies to sustain the ministries of Catholic women religious. Earlier this year, the Foundation merged with the Saint Ann Foundation, another organization of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine Health System. The Sisters of Charity Foundation now embraces the 32-year legacy of the Saint Ann Foundation which is recognized as the nation’s first hospital conversion foundation and the first foundation undertaken by an American religious congregation.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton, and the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina were established ten years ago by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine Health System with combined assets of $250 million. Their goals were, and are, ambitious: to bring marginalized individuals and families into the mainstream of society by helping to effect systemic change and address root causes of poverty.

Ms. Krey provides guidance to all three Sisters of Charity Foundations in her additional role as Senior Vice President, Foundations and Marketing for the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine Health System. In addition to notable experience in foundation leadership, her extensive career in hospital and healthcare system administration has involved marketing and public relations, planning, strategic alliance activities and managed care.

Before entering the field of health care administration, Ms. Krey was a nationally-recognized expert on nutrition having worked extensively in various clinical research and administrative positions in both Cleveland, Ohio and Boston, Massachusetts. She has published numerous articles and co-edited two text books in this field.

Ms. Krey is a summa cum laude graduate of Simmons College, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Tufts University, where she has also completed an internship at the Frances Stern Nutrition Center. Additionally, she has completed post-graduate work in healthcare, marketing and planning at the Weatherhead School of Management of Case Western Reserve University, the Wharton School of Management at the University of Pennsylvania, and Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
